XML

XML, short for Extensible Markup Language, is a W3C standard for encoding documents and data structures in a text-based format. Unlike HTML, which uses predefined tags to display content, XML allows users to define their own tags to describe the meaning of data. XML documents are both human-readable and machine-readable, making them widely used for data exchange across different platforms and applications.

They store information in a structured way using XML tags and syntax rules, enabling seamless data transport and integration. XML files support schemas to validate data and ensure consistency, which is essential for enterprise applications. Common use cases include web services, configuration files, document storage, and industry-specific standards like RSS and SVG.

Its flexibility and portability have made XML a foundation for many file formats, from Microsoft Office documents to APIs and web protocols. While newer formats like JSON are often used in modern development, XML remains a reliable standard for interoperability and structured data representation.
