Xamarin

Xamarin is an open-source framework that extends the .NET platform with tools and libraries for building cross-platform mobile applications. It enables developers to write most of their code in C# and share it across Android, iOS, and Windows, thereby reducing development time and costs for teams. Xamarin apps compile to native code, providing near-native performance and access to device APIs while maintaining a consistent user experience.

The framework includes Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android for platform-specific development, and Xamarin.Forms for creating shared UI components across multiple operating systems. With support for modern programming constructs, third-party libraries, and cloud integrations, Xamarin enables faster app prototyping and enterprise-scale solutions.

Although Xamarin’s official support ended in 2024 in favor of .NET MAUI, many existing apps still rely on its cross-platform capabilities. It remains an important technology in the history of mobile development, widely used for building secure, scalable, and maintainable applications.
